Mia L. Jones is the Chief Executive Officer of AGAPE Community Health Center, Inc., the Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) in Duval County. Agape opened its doors as an independent FQHC in April 2016 under Jones’ leadership. She has been recognized by Volunteers in Medicine (VIM) as a 2017 Woman with Heart and serves on the boards of Duval Medical Society Foundation, Feeding NE Florida and United Healthcare Florida Community Plan’s Provider Advisory Committee (PAC).
Mia L. Jones served as Director of Boards and Commissions and was appointed as the first Health Commissioner under Mayor Alvin Brown (2011-2015). Additionally, she served eight years in the Florida House of Representatives, departing as two term (2012-2016) Democratic Leader Pro Tempore. She represented the state’s 14th District where she is a life-long resident. While serving in the Florida House, she served as the Ranking Member on the House Select Committee on Health Care Workforce Innovation and Health and Human Services Committee. These committees considered matters related to programs, regulations and systems that provided health care, health care coverage, social services, and financial assistance for Floridians and their families, while working to ensure that he State who have a well prepared workforce in the years to come. Representative Jones is a statewide and national thought leader recognized for her commitment in increasing access to healthcare for the uninsured and to maximizing the inclusion of telemedicine throughout Florida, in community health centers and in school-based care for children.
Jones previously served on the Jacksonville City Council from 2003 to 2008 after serving as the Director of Minority Business Affairs for the Duval County Public Schools. Jones began her career in public service in 1992, working with Jacksonville’s then Mayor Ed Austin in the Office of Equal Employment until 1995. Jones attended Florida A&M University, where she graduated with an Accounting degree and later attained a Master’s degree in Business Administration.
